The Power of Crystals - Rose Quartz

Here at The Gem Collective, we love jewellery with something extra - meaning and purpose. Crystals are well known for having healing properties (as well as looking stunning!). One of our favourites is Rose Quartz.

What does Rose Quartz do?

Rose Quartz is the crystal of love. It is also known to inspire kindness and compassion. Rose Quartz can help restore trust and promote friendship, self-healing, and peace. According to the GIA Gem Encyclopedia, the Ancient Egyptians used to even believe it would help prevent aging (can't hurt to give it a shot, right?!).

What types and colours of Quartz are there?

Rose Quartz comes in slightly varying shades of rosy pink. There are other types of quartz too, like Smoky Quartz, and Clear Quartz. It is found in lots of different places around the world like South Africa, India, and Madagascar.

How tough is Rose Quartz?

The Mohs Hardness Scale is what we use to assign levels of hardness to different types of minerals. It is a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the hardest. Quartz sits at level 7. To give you a bit of perspective, diamonds sit at level 10. A steel nail sits at 6.5. So as you can tell, Quartz is a fairly hard and tough crystal - perfect for using to make jewellery that will stand the test of time.

How can you incorporate Rose Quartz into your life?

It is the perfect crystal to keep on you to make the most of its properties. That's why Rose Quartz is so great for making into jewellery. We are a few Rose Quartz pieces in our collection, which you can see here and here. It also makes for a great thoughtful gift.

Another great option is to keep a piece of Rose Quartz next to your bed, or somewhere else in your house where you will see it and be near it everyday. There are lots of other types of products on the market which use Rose Quartz - like coasters, candle holders, etc. These are all perfect ways to bring the magic of the crystal into your life!

Before we go, we'll leave you with this "gem" from Katy Perry,

"I don't stay single for long. I carry a lot of Rose Quartz, which attracts the male. Maybe I need to calm it down with Amethyst".
